or, Swedish Ubiquity! Hooray!

The last entry was all about the amazing opener, so I thought I'd post a tiny bit about the headliner. It's not that they were bad, because they weren't. I was just too blown by Andrew Bird. During the Peter, Bjorn and John set I kept thinking back to some of the Bird stuff and that shouldn't happen. I should be captivated by the band in front of me. But I guess that's not PB&J's fault.

I did find it amusing that they had a lot of between-song banter, of which I could understand almost none, what with their incomprehensibly strong Swedish accents. But then during every song, they sounded straight-up British. All traces of Sweden gone.

But we had a blast just jumping and dancing and shouting too. Bands like this are always good for jumping and shouting, even though they are a dime-a-dozen.

The only stand-out thing about PB&J is their single "Young Folks." If you don't know it, you've been hiding under the rock of really crappy radio stations for the last 6 months. All the other ones have this song in heavy rotation. All the big corporations are using it in their jingles. All sorts of bands are covering it. And you can't blame theme. It's insanely catchy and fun and likes to burrow into your brain where it refuses to give up its stranglehold on your sanity.

Young Folks Video!

Dawn Landes' Bluegrass Version!

Freaky German Version!

Horrible PB&J Acoustic Version!

Even more horrible version with PB&J and Kayne West rapping on top!

These guys were his back-up band for some festival in Europe. It's such an odd pairing.

It was funny that when the show started, before any of the band came out on stage, they played a cool techno version that got everyone excited and dancing. I guess you have to play to the fact that this song is everywhere, in all these shapes and forms. And good for them. It's about time Sweden did something noteworthy.
