one flesh

Its her night tonight, and shes acting the part. Shes got a smile painted on her face and her hair is pulled up like it should be. Shes as pretty as she ever was as she flutters around the room, smiling through her congratulations. Sure to embrace everyone that came, she visits them all by the end of the night. Everyone, that is, except me. Radiant yet simple, glowing white fabric spins around us in our only dance. Connected by hands, but not by eyes, I feel the full weight of the distance. The same distance I felt between our kiss, accented by the immediacy of its end, as we turned and presented ourselves and our new flesh. And tonight well make an excuse. Understanding yet disconnected. Separated, the night will end. Separately, well both lie sleepless. Speechless. In the darkness. In the distance.
