Day 11 - A languange we'll understand

May 14, 2006

Vernazza, Italy
Train from La Spezia

The closest Kingdom Hall to us for this area was in a larger city called La Spezia. So after passing through the little crowd of vacationing tourists in our shirts and ties and dresses, we boarded the train and headed away from any areas a tourist might ever want to go -- meaning we headed into areas where no one had any reason to know any English. That made figuring out the train schedules, transferring, finding the hall in town and so on.. interesting since we had to stumble through only conversing in Italian. And since I know Spanish, everyone relied on me for all communication. But I'm ok with that. I have fun talking and trying to figure it out. It was that way at the hall too. My sister had an Italian dictionary so she gave us some phrases and then I got us through the rest. One or two of the younger brothers and sisters knew some English, so that helped. But during the meeting it was up to me to find the right scriptures and explain what was going on.

Thankfully, only the language is ever different at meetings in other lands. The friendly people, what is being said, the way the meeting is conducted, what everyone believes, and even the exact subject matter is always taught simultaneously in every meeting around the entire globe. That kind of unity is indescribable and really must be experienced to be believed.

The brothers were nice enough to take us out in 2 cars to a local restaraunt that served the very best and most food we've had so far for the least money. I wish we could have been able to communicate better with them in gestures more meaningful than "thank. you." and a hand on our heart. But when they smiled and embraced us, we felt the love that someday we'll be able to express to eachother in a pure language that everyone understands.
