Let's Pretend We're In Antarctica

Concert Review

Of Montreal with Lonely, Dear
Pabst Theatre, Milwaukee
3/17/07 (St. Pats)
or, Let's Pretend We Don't Exist

This weekend we saw Of Montreal at the Pabst. It was Saint Patty's so things got a little crazy. But we had no idea just how crazy the night would be. First, watch the video for Of Montreal's best song "Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games" because it will be the best video you've ever seen:

That's what we were expecting for the night. However, the band never even played that song. They skipped right to the freaky stuff, making it the weirdest show any of us had ever been to.

We were in a good mood tho. On the walk to the concert, we all linked arms and Irish-Jigged down the street, inciting points and stares from onlookers in restaurant windows and drunken high-fives from strangers. It's St. Patty's after all. We fit right in.

The Lords of the Dance

At the Pabst, we had green beer and enjoyed Lonely, Dear's mellow set.

We danced in the balcony, where the party's at.

Jamin and Ashley high-five for the entire intermission.

Ben and Rae look smashing. Or smashed. Whatever.

Then Of Montreal came on and started normal enough.

The videos were weird...

Trippy 4-armed cartoon people drowning.

The singer reveals his red cumberbund and 2 half-cat half-bird creatures eat eachother in the background.

This was a creepy picture of a man who had eyes that would drop out of their sockets and float back in.

And now the singer is wearing a 20 foot dress. There's a ladder inside. And then it got really weird.

Yes, that's really what he's wearing. Make-up, a unitard, a cumberbund, and fish-net stockings.

Ashley can't believe what she's seeing.

And 54 Second Johnson is disgusted and slightly intrigued.

All in all, it was an entertaining night.
