January Video Mix-Tape
This month's mixtape is going to be a Video Mixtape! These are basically awesome videos that I thought you should see, but the music is top notch as well.
Unkle with Thom Yorke - Rabbit in your Headlights
Warning: This video is intense.
This is one of my favorite songs from about a decade ago. I just recently saw this video and was blown away by the intensity. Be sure to watch to the very end. I see it as the empowerment that overtakes you when you've just had enough. But there's also much to be seen in the fact that hiding himself from the world with his coat makes him vulnerable, but when he bares himself .. he can't be touched?
Clubbed To Death - Rob Dougan
Another older but great song with intensity and power that is captured perfectly by the raw emotion and symbolism of the video. I love how time runs in different directions for different elements of the video.
Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out)
In a similar vein, here's an older song filmed at different frequencies, allowing action at different rates in the same frame. Some are just silly and some are more disturbing at each viewing.
Sia Breathe Me
Great song with thousands of polaroids.
Moby - Porcelain
"In my dreams, I'm dying all the time"
Glosoli - Sigur Ros
Glosoli tells the touching story of a young pied-piper that leads fellow children to a utopia of a freedom. Don't miss the last scene.
Xploding Plastix - Joy Comes In The Morning
Time to get a little more surreal. I love the dead carrot angels. And the unicorn turtles!
UNKLE - An Eye for an Eye
More haunting surreality. This one has won awards at International Film Festivals. Is it a criticism of greed? consumerism? America? war?
Forss - City Ports
The visualization fits perfectly to the music.
Royksopp - Remind Me
If you breakdown our daily lives into the minutest details and examine the extreme complications inherent in every piece of the most basic functions we take for granted, you'd have this video. All of these immensely incomprehensible complexities exist solely for us to make it to the office and sit in a cubicle?
Justice - D.A.N.C.E
This one also won a lot of awards. I get annoyed by the kids singing in the song.. but the video is really amazing.
RJD2 - Work It Out
The strange and ridiculous crutch dancing is somewhat justified because the song is pretty cool.
Jason Forrest - War Photographer
Great song + Vikings playing drums and shredding guitars to destroy massive viking robots = Awesome.
Fujiya & Miyagi - Ankle Injuries
This video was done entirely out of 6-sided dice.
The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
The Avalanches use thousands of sampled audio in their tracks. This freaky video is perfect. The ghost choir is bested only by the nightmarish old-man turtle.
There's tons of other cool videos out there, obvoiusly... but these, I felt, were must-sees. Enjoy?
