tzi bunk

Am I the only one who thinks this is insane?

Especially this part...
"Then the attackers removed the arrow from tzi's shoulder and left him there. As they came back to the village, the murderers said that the old man got lost in the mountains."

Now they know the conversations of imaginary people 5,300 years ago? Scientists can make any crap up they want and people buy it.

I guess I'm just leery of scientists' outrageous claims. Just because he poked a mummy doesn't mean he knows that much about that particular situation 5,300 years ago. Who's to say he was murdered? People get bullet wounds that heal over and they carry the bullet inside for years. Who's to say he was the chief/shaman? Do we have other preserved mummies from his era without the tools and trinkets he carried? No. Who's to say he was running away from other tribesmen who wanted his power? Maybe he shagged his best-friend's wife and had to flee. Was he running at all? We don't know. Does 45 make him the "Methusela" of his day? Of course not. You don't have other mummies with which to compare. And you probably didn't even get 45 right. But we hear made-up stuff like that all the time.

And the end of that article sounds like a movie with all the mysterious deaths covering up some secret and disguised as a "curse". Was there a competing theory that got hushed? Or do scientists believe in curses now? Strange stuff.

And I know Scientists != Discovery Channel. It's the discovery channel that is pushing a "curse" theory. But the 'scientist' says he doesn't believe in the curse and then says that it made him nervous. This guy's a crackpot.

And yes, I'm including this because I need to speak up a lot more when the world makes idiocy sound intellectual. We rarely hear about the debunking that happens later and I just found out that several people I know just buy into it. I've always assumed that everyone can recognize crap when it is being tossed on them, but I guess some of us just roll around in the mire thinking they are being fed truth.

So I'm going to do my share of debunking when I can. Please don't be silent when you recognize b.s. because some of your loved ones out there can't recognize it. And if they buy a supposed 'intellectual' telling them about imaginary ape-man conversations from 5,300 years ago, then they'll buy said 'intellectual' and his garbage about dinosaurs evolving into birds and primordial campbell's soup turning sentient and global ice age glaciers travelling uphill and complete socio-mental diagnosis of a tribe based on 2 bone fragments. And he'll probably base it all on Carbon-14!

Someday we'll ask tzi what his story was... that is... if we don't buy the bunk now and lose our chance.
