holy crap.

holy crap. we totally just had a tornado. i didn't see it, though, which sucks eggs. but it was the first time i actually had to scrape the dog out from under the bed and run down to the basement. i was outside looking for it for a while, as the warning messages were blasting from the tv in the house, but then it got really really loud and too windy to stand. so we all ran frantically looking for a flashlight and the phones and then i collected the dog and a book and ran in the basement. my brother-in-law had been calling me from the meeting since their hall had their meeting tonight but they were worried that they should send everyone home. so he had me lookup where the tornado was and its route from the interweb. i called him back a few times while he was on vibrate to tell him the course of the storm, as it seemed to be heading straight towards us and predicted to proceed on to the town that his hall is in. and then suddenly, as we were huddled in the corner of the basement, all the noise and wind ceased. i figured it was like the calm before the storm, so we waited a little while, but i guess it was the calm after the storm. the dog had stopped phreaking, so i figured we were safe again. i had previously opened all the windows some so that they didn't blow out, so when i went upstairs, the bathroom was soaked in an inch of water. my whole desk and keyboard were actually sopping wet too. but other than that, everything was fine. my brother-in-law's meeting was sent home early as the storm had passed them as well. apparently the tornado travelled down hwy 20, which is the street we lived on while this house was being built. i wonder if that house is still standing. there's a sister living there now, so i guess i'll know soon enough if something happened.

yes, exciting as this is, it's something i never had to worry about living in the city. tornadoes seem to be much more frequent out here in the country. i gotta get outta here.
